Porous Media Group

Mathematics of porous media enables understanding of complex processes in CO2- storage, geothermal energy and biomedicine. The porous media group (PMG) pioneers mathematical models, numerical methods and software. We study how fluid flow, deformation, thermal transport and reactions interact in porous media with structural features like fractures and veins.

About the research group

The group consists of five professors, three Researchers, and typically 10-15 PhDs and postdocs at any time. It leads several projects with external funding. Research areas include

development and analysis of mathematical models for multiphysics processes in porous media
numerical methods for solving the partial differential equations that arise, and
development of related open source software for simulation and data analysis.

The group is a top ranked group in the Research Council of Norway’s most recent national evaluation of departments and research groups in mathematics, ICT and technology.

The group collaborates with scientists from physics, geophysics, geology, chemistry, and medicine.
