What Is Computer Networking?
A computer network
consists of:
Two or more devices
connected by media
Apps to support sharing

End-User Devices
Mobility is important.
Network connections are
essential.
OS must be designed for
networking.

Switches and Access Points
Access switches connect
end-users.
Core switches connect
switches and shared
resources.
APs connect wireless
devices.

Routers
Routers connect one
network to others.
Routers control
communications.

Media
Different types of signals
are transmitted over
different media.
Electricity is
transmitted
over copper
Radio frequencies
are transmitted
through air
Light is transmitted
over optical fiber
