There are several types of positioning errors brands can make including under positioning, where the central benefit is not clear enough to customers; over positioning, where the product is positioned as too specialized for a small audience; confused positioning, where contradictory benefits are claimed; doubtful positioning, where benefits are claimed that customers doubt; and irrelevant positioning, where benefits are focused on aspects customers do not care about. Examples of each type of positioning error are provided.
