ENERGY CONSERVATION
 Energy: Power derived from the utilization of physical
or chemical resources, especially to provide light and
heat or to work machines.
 Conservation: The ethical use and protection of
valuable resources, such as trees, minerals, wildlife,

ENERGY CONSUMPTION IN INDIA
 Although India’s per capita energy consumption is one of the
lowest
 India still ranks 4th largest energy consuming nation in the
world
 India’s energy consumption has more than doubled since 1990
and although India has one of the highest amounts of coal
reserves, she is heavily dependent on imported crude oil. Coal
currently accounts for nearly 41 percent of energy produced in
India.

WHAT WE CAN DO
Follow 3 R’s for conservation
WHAT WE CAN DO
 AT HOME
 Don’t keep lights/ appliances unnecessarily switched on.
 Use appliances after analysing the star rating.
 Use solar water heater.
 Use power efficient LED lights.
 Restrict use of plastic bags, use jute or paper bags.
 Don’t keep the tap running while washing hands or shaving.
WHAT WE CAN DO
 AT PUBLIC PLACES
 Switch off fans and lights in places like bus terminals or railway
stations when not needed.
 Switch off street lights when not required.
 Close or tighten the tap from which water is dripping .
WHAT WE CAN DO
 IN TRAFFIC
 Switch off the vehicle whenever on red signal or traffic jam.
 Carry out regular servicing and pollution check for vehicle.
 Use cycles or prefer walking when going to near by place.
 Sharing is caring.
