Our mission is to lead decarbonisation solutions through Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and Physical Decarbonisation initiatives.
Leveraging our expertise, we offer CCS as a service to decarbonise the hard-to-abate industries domestically and internationally. We are committed to offer an integrated CCS solution, spearheading the development of Malaysia’s CCS hubs.
Through Physical Decarbonisation, we focus on lowering greenhouse gas emissions from Upstream operations, maximising hydrocarbon value, and achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Carbon Management was established to drive and enhance all key decarbonisation efforts within Upstream and establish an integrated platform to streamline the management of CCS for the whole of PETRONAS. With the formation of Carbon Management, we are expected to bring greater focus on driving decarbonisation at pace in pursuit of PETRONAS’ Net Zero Carbon Emission (NZCE) by 2050 and MFT30 aspiration.

Physical Decarbonisation in PETRONAS Upstream
Physical Decarbonisation serves as a one-stop tactical strategist and solutions partner for decarbonising Upstream assets and products. Our services focus on:
- Reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions from physical sources within Upstream operations.
- Maximising hydrocarbon value.
By lowering GHG intensity from three production lenses—surface facilities, pipelines, and terminals – Physical Decarbonisation work toward achieving net zero carbon emissions operations. In line with PETRONAS’ Energy Transition Strategy, Physical Decarbonisation aims to bring PETRONAS Upstream to the forefront of sustainable energy supply by envisioning the future of net zero carbon emissions operations.
Carbon Capture Storage (CCS)
CCS is a pivotal decarbonisation solution designed to mitigate CO2 emissions by capturing CO2 generated during industrial activities and securely transporting it for storage deep underground in geological formations. As an integrated solution partner, our CCS department is at the forefront of developing Malaysia’s CCS hubs, committed to creating a comprehensive ecosystem and value chain.
Our services include:
CO2 Transportation
Safely transporting captured CO2 to our CO2 storage site.
CO2 Storage Site and Injection
Identifying and evaluating optimal storage sites for CO2 injection based on geological suitability and adherence to regulatory compliance, ensuring secure underground containment.
Measurement, Monitoring and Verification
Conducting rigorous monitoring and verification processes to ensure the integrity, and safety of stored CO2.
Advancing Malaysia CCS
PETRONAS is spearheading efforts to develop permanent CO2 storage infrastucture in Malaysia, positioning the country as a regional CCS hub while driving regional decarbonisation.
Development of Southern CCS Hub in Malaysia
Initial storage of 5 MTPA, with first CO₂ injection targeted as early as 2031

The CCS value chain includes CO2 capture from industrial sources, transportation, and injection at CO2 storage sites. We deliver end-to-end Transportation and Storage Services, ensuring efficient and safe CO2 storage with our comprehensive suite of solutions.

PETRONAS CCS Ventures Sdn Bhd (PCCSV) and PETRONAS CCS Solutions Sdn Bhd (PCCSS) are established to spearhead projects across the CCS value chain in Malaysia, offering CCS as a service to support clean energy and economic growth.

Jules Nautica is PETRONAS CCS Venture’s incorporation of a strategic joint venture (JV) with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd., (MOL) and MISC Berhad which will act as the ultimate shipowner of Liquified Carbon Dioxide (LCO₂) carriers to transport CO₂ to designated storage sites.

Project CarbonStrike is PETRONAS’ carbon capture technology arm that simplifies carbon capture solutions for industries through advanced capture technologies and expert project delivery.
CarbonStrike collaborates with PETRONAS’ permanent CCS transportation & storage solutions to complement CCS implementation across selected parts of the value chain.
