Rules for MEPs
Anyone can contact MEPs through the details available under each MEP profile.
While MEPs enjoy freedom of mandate, they are bound to the Rules of Procedure and the Code of Conduct (Annex I).
The terms and conditions for Members are laid out in the Statute for Members of the European Parliament, from 2009.
The European Parliament sets great store on the integrity, transparency and accountability of the political activities of its Members. In order to ensure this, Parliament has put in place a considerable number of rules and measures, which have been further strengthened as part of a comprehensive revision process in 2023.
MEPs are bound by a Code of Conduct regarding integrity and transparency, and by a Code of Appropriate Behaviour.
Together with the Council of the European Union and the European Commission, the Parliament uses a common Transparency Register for oversight of activities of interest representatives. MEPs also publish information on their contacts with lobby groups in their profiles on the European Parliament website.
