How are the Commission President and Commissioners appointed? 

Following the European elections, one of the first tasks of the new intake of MEPs is to elect the next President of the European Commission (the EU’s executive body).

Candidates for Commission portfolios have to go through a tough parliamentary vetting process – including hearings before Parliament’s committees, followed by a vote of Parliament on the appointment of the European Commission as a whole.
