Salaries

All MEPs receive the same salary for performing their duties. Salaries are set at 38.5% of the basic salary of a judge at the European Court of Justice, as outlined in the Statute for MEPs (Article 10). The salary is paid from Parliament's budget and is subject to an EU tax and insurance contributions. Member States may also subject the salary to national taxes.

Pensions

Former MEPs are entitled to a pension when they turn 63, in accordance with Article 14 of the Statute for MEPs. The amount of the pension is equal to 3.5% of their salary for each full year in office and one twelfth thereof for each further full month, but not more than 70% in total.

Allowances

In addition to their salary, MEPs are - as with Members of national parliaments - entitled to allowances that cover expenditure incurred in the performance of their parliamentary duties, often away from home.
