Ein Ausschuss ist berechtigt, eine Anhörung mit Sachverständigen zu veranstalten, wenn dies für seine Arbeit zu einem bestimmten Thema als unerlässlich erachtet wird. Anhörungen können auch von mehreren Ausschüssen gemeinsam abgehalten werden. Die meisten Ausschüsse organisieren regelmäßig Anhörungen, da sie es ihnen ermöglichen, sich zu wichtigen Themen von Sachverständigen beraten zu lassen und diese zu erörtern. On 27 January 2026, the Committee on Budgetary Control (CONT) organised the public hearing “Protection of the financial interests of the EU in Slovakia”.
The LIBE Committee, in association with CONT Committee, has organised the public hearing of the candidates for European Chief Prosecutor, a key position in setting EPPO's strategic direction and ensuring EU-wide enforcement against complex financial crime.
On 15 July 2025, the Committee on Budgetary Control (CONT) organised the public hearing "The role of customs authorities in protecting the financial interests of the Union - ensuring the complete collection of traditional own resources”, in collaboration with the Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO).
On 26 June 2025, the Committee on Budgetary Control (CONT) organised the public hearing "Two Decades of progress: evaluating the successes and lessons in implementing the EU budget from EU Enlargements since 2004”.
The objective of the joint public hearing was to provide the Members of the BUDG, CONT and LIBE Committees with input from academics and practitioners on how to ensure that final beneficiaries and recipients can continue to receive EU funding where the EU has suspended payments to a Member State due to rule of law breaches by the central government.
As part of the scrutiny exercised by the European Parliament on the implementation of the Rule of Law Conditionality Regulation, the Committees on Budgets (BUDG) and on Budgetary Control (CONT) will hold a public hearing on the lessons learnt from this mechanism and ways to make it more effective.
