Revisiting Ryder Cup 2023 in Rome
Transforming through technology
We help transform our clients’ businesses by unlocking the opportunities of technology.
For the Ryder Cup in Rome, we used technology to bring a data-first vision to the event. We gave fans the tools to witness real-time course and player insights. We provided assurance for IT services and empowering captains to make data-driven decisions impacting strategy.
All this to help transform the game and fan experience through the power of technology.
Outcome IQ
At the Ryder Cup, every shot matters. Outcome IQ powered by Capgemini estimates the probability of winning the hole, the day, and the match.
Our tool, which sits on the Ryder Cup app, puts the intelligence of real-time data in the palm of every fan’s hand.
It harnesses the precision of multiple inputs, from player performance to hole-specific characteristics and player pairings, to deliver insightful in-game analysis.
IT governance
Capgemini provided the program assurance and project management to make the tournament technology successful. An event on the scale of 3.5 million viewers and over 200,000 on-site guests and players required an integrated IT system that is stable, secure, and strategically planned.
Our world-class program management team oversaw the coordination of technology delivery, public mobile deployment and infrastructure testing to ensure the quality of the technology performed as much as the golfers themselves – and to power a flawless Ryder Cup experience for all fans of the game.
Captain's Dashboard
To empower smarter decisions on the course, we developed a custom application for Ryder Cup team leaders. The Captain’s Dashboard was used by the EU Captain and Vice Captains to make real-time, data-driven calls – optimizing match pairings and team sequencing to boost performance on every hole.
Edoardo Molinari, Europe Vice Captain at 2023 Ryder Cup, commented: “The Captain’s Dashboard, that Capgemini and I worked closely on to develop, provided Luke with vital insights and information. Having the player performance dashboard available in mobile format enabled better collaboration and more effective team decision-making. This innovative tool is a great example of how technology and data can be used to achieve results.”
