I want to continue using AIOSEO for all of its normal SEO features, including XML sitemaps, schema, titles/meta, and other site optimization features, but I want to manage llms.txt manually.

Is there an official way to disable only AIOSEO’s llms.txt generation and prevent AIOSEO from creating, overwriting, or updating /llms.txt, while leaving the rest of AIOSEO fully active?

I am currently using a custom manually maintained llms.txt file and want to ensure AIOSEO will never overwrite it.

Also, when I place a literal Markdown blockquote character > at the beginning of the LLMs.txt Description field, AIOSEO outputs it as > instead of preserving the literal >. Is this a known issue, and is there a planned fix or official filter/hook for the top-level summary?

Please confirm the recommended configuration for using AIOSEO normally while permanently leaving /llms.txt under manual control.

    Hi @tonybabarino ,

    Thanks for reaching out!

Keeping llms.txt under your own control: Go to All in One SEO > Sitemaps > LLMs.txt and turn off Enable llms.txt – https://a.supportally.com/i/O9Gimj. That only controls the llms.txt file, so your sitemaps, schema, and titles/meta stay fully active. One catch on the order: turning the generator off deletes the llms.txt AIOSEO was managing (a real file at your site root). So switch it off first, then upload your own file. After that, nothing in AIOSEO will create, overwrite, or delete /llms.txt again, as long as the toggle stays off.

The > coming out as >: Known issue on our side. The site-level Description doesn’t support a Markdown blockquote yet, so a leading > gets written as the entity >, and there’s no filter for that top-level summary today. A fix is already in progress to emit it as a proper > blockquote. I can’t promise a release date, but it’s being worked on. Since you’re maintaining the file yourself, this only affects AIOSEO’s generated output, not your version.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks!
