MenuBrowser

MenuBrowser is a native macOS menu bar app that sits in front of your browsers, routing each link to the right one based on rules you control.

Features

  • URL rules for domains and path prefixes
  • One-click default browser switching from the menu bar (for links that don't match a rule)
  • Chromium profile-aware routing
  • Clipboard open and private/incognito open helpers
  • Global hotkey for opening the menu

Requirements

  • macOS 14.0 or newer
  • Xcode command line tools

The build script now produces a universal app binary with both arm64 and x86_64 slices.

Build

./test.sh
./build.sh
open build/MenuBrowser.app

Package

./package.sh
open build/MenuBrowser-*.dmg

Project Layout

  • Sources/: App source files
  • Tests/: Lightweight regression tests
  • build.sh: Builds and signs the .app
  • package.sh: Produces a DMG

Permissions

  • Set MenuBrowser as the default browser so macOS dispatches every http/https link to it. MenuBrowser then applies your rules and opens the URL in the right browser. No other permissions are required.
