This is two versions of Cv Alkan's Op. 63 piano piece "Laus Deo".

One version (Charles-Valentin-Alkan-Laus-Deo) is as close to the source as I can manage, with the notable exception being the omission of fingering.

The other, (Charles-Valentin-Alkan-Laus-Deo-Alternative) includes a number of changes to make it more readable, specifically:

  1. Ottava marking are used where appropriate.
  2. For the sections starting on bars 4 and 22 the music is switched across staves. For some reason the source is written with hands crossed (to quite an extreme!), and while stylish I find it much more practical/sensible for the right hand to generally remain above the left.
  3. In the section starting on bar 11, the third voices on the upper stave is moved in to the lower stave for readability. The somewhat insistent repetition of "dolce e legato" is also removed from this bar.

These are all optional though, and the main version replicates the source.

One last note is that these files produce errors when compiled to midi. I think this reflects oddities in the source: (1) pedals are instructed to be held for extreme lengths of time, and (2) some bars have extra bar lines drawn within them (bar 16, bar 22 on the 2nd repeat, and bar 29).
