Whenever my phone rotates to landscape (and while the media player notification is visible) the custom "tiles per row" get reset to the default 3x3 - the media player squarshes the tiles to the side, leaving space only for three vertical columns. However, this can quickly be fixed by closing the media player, and then rotating from portrait>landscape>portrait. Still annoying though.
