This study assesses the adequacy of the post-2027 MFF proposals in providing support for dealing with natural disasters. It examines measures related to prevention and preparedness before disasters occur, as well as immediate responses and recovery support afterwards. Based on this analysis, it formulates policy recommendations on how the proposals could be improved.
Sudan’s civil war between the SAF and RSF has triggered the world’s worst humanitarian crisis. Millions are displaced and foreign backing prolongs the conflict. Despite EU-led donor efforts covering food, health, and water, chronic underfunding and ongoing violence severely hinder aid delivery.
This briefing was drafted to support the ENVI mission to the First Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels, which took place in Colombia from 24-29 April 2026. The briefing outlines the conference’s methodology as well as central dynamics and processes.
The proposals for the next MFF include substantial changes in the approach to funding for employment and social objectives. The study compares it with the current MFF, with special attention to the implications for the European Pillar of Social Rights and concludes with recommendations for the EP.

The adoption of AI systems among young learners in EU schools may expose them to cognitive risks affecting attention, memory and critical thinking, requiring strong teacher guidance. The EU can act by integrating the cognitive dimension into regulatory frameworks for AI in education.
This study maps EU allocations and instruments supporting natural disaster prevention, preparedness, response and recovery under the 2021–2027 Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) and compares them with the European Commission’s proposals for the 2028–2034 MFF.
