Welcome message from the Chair

Welcome to the webpages of the European Parliament's Delegation for Relations with the countries of South Asia. This delegation is responsible for inter-parliamentary relations with Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

We meet at regular intervals with the Ambassadors of the respective countries, with representatives of the European External Action Service, with think tanks and NGOs, with Members of Parliament from the countries concerned, with representatives of all political parties - whether in government or in opposition - as well as with representatives of various minority groups. This delegation also conducts official visits to these countries as part of inter-parliamentary meetings, which are held on a rotational basis, alternating between Europe and the respective partner country.

Discussions focus on democracy, human rights, good governance, development cooperation, regional integration, trade and climate change, among others. Relations with these countries are based on different legal grounds and cooperation instruments, reflecting diverse patterns of intensity in commercial exchanges, investment flows, development cooperation, technical assistance, or cultural links.

You will find more details on our work and meetings in these pages. Often, our meetings are web-streamed, and you are most welcome to follow our discussions live.
