Press release: EP Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Vilnius, Lithuania - 1 June 2026

The European Parliament sent a delegation of 8 MEPs, led by Salvatore DE MEO (EPP, Italy), to the Spring Session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA) in Vilnius, Lithuania, from 30 May to 1 June 2026.
This was the last major parliamentary gathering before the NATO Ankara Summit (7-8 July 2026). A clear message emerged from the committee meetings: strengthening defence, security, innovation, and Allied unity remain at the heart of NATO's future, all united in support of Ukraine.
DNAT Chair Salvatore DE MEO stated:
"The strength of the Alliance rests not only on its military capabilities but on the political will of its parliaments to ensure sustainability and the support of its citizens. Accountability, oversight, and legislative action are what transforms political commitments into operational capabilities. Working through both NATO and the EU could prove mutually reinforcing and generate the synergies that will ensure European security and for the whole Alliance".

The European Parliament sent a delegation of 8 MEPs, led by Salvatore DE MEO (EPP, Italy), to participate in the Annual Session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA) in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from 10 to 13 October 2025.

The Annual Session marked a further step-forward in the role of MEPs in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly with the European Parliament being conferred new enhanced rights as a "Partner for Comprehensive Security". Similarly, the Ukrainian delegation's status was also enhanced, underlining the strategic and indivisible EU-NATO-Ukrainian security and defence parliamentary partnership.
Following the Annual Session, the Chair, Salvatore DE MEO, stated:
"Russia continues to reject peace and to intensify its brutal war of aggression against civilians in Ukraine, while recklessly violating European airspace with warplanes and drones. In this critical moment, Europe must respond with unity and responsibility, developing new and more effective tools to strengthen ....

The European Parliament sent a delegation of 8 MEPs, led by Marie-Agnes STRACK-ZIMMERMANN (Renew, Germany), to participate in the Spring Session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA) in Dayton, Ohio, from 22 to 26 May 2025.

The delegation contributed to debates on the legacy of the Dayton Peace Agreement, 30 years after its signing, and the continued need to ensure stability in the Western Balkans. Discussions also focused on strategic issues, namely strengthening transatlantic security, countering authoritarian threats, and maintaining strong support for Ukraine in the face of Russia's ongoing war of aggression. ...

A security alliance of democracies, the European Parliament works to strengthen the European pillar of NATO

A full, 10-member delegation of the European Parliament to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (DNAT) attended the 70th Annual Session in Montréal, 22-25 November. More than 250 MPs of the 32 Allies and partners engaged in discussions on the many challenges facing the Euro-Atlantic area and the rules-based international order.

Statement by DNAT Chair Salvatore DE MEO in view of the upcoming 70th NATO PA Annual Session Montréal (Canada) - 22-25 November 2024

The newly constituted DNAT will send a full, 10-member delegation to its first Annual Session of the NATO PA, which is to take place in Montréal (Canada), 22-25 November, and to be attended by close to 400 Members from the parliaments of the 32 NATO Allies as well as partner countries and parliamentary bodies.
