How do I use Inspera?
Log in to Inspera using your UiB username and password to gain access, and take the demo test to see how it works. We recommend spending some time familiarizing yourself with the functionality through the demo tests so that you are well prepared for exam day.
Inspera for Home Exams and In-person Exams
Exams are conducted in different ways depending on the exam type. Read the information under the relevant section carefully, and make sure you have the correct equipment, software, and access before exam day.
Home Exams and Exam Submission
For exams where you write or produce an assignment, podcast, video, or similar, you complete the exam outside Inspera and upload your exam answer in Inspera as a file.
- To submit in Inspera, your computer must have an up-to-date operating system. Try a different browser if you are unable to open Inspera and submit.
- Remember to check which file format is allowed; this will be stated in the assignment text and/or in Mitt UiB.
- Keep in mind that Inspera closes exactly when the time runs out, and it will not be possible to upload after that.
In-person Exams and Safe Exam Browser (SEB)
When an In-person exam (also called a school exam) starts, follow the instructions on the screen. You will write your answers in the text editor in Inspera.
Your laptop must be locked to the exam system using Safe Exam Browser (SEB).
- You must check that you have the latest version of SEB before each exam.
- If, during the week before the exam, you can complete and “submit” the demo test in Inspera and then exit SEB without error messages, your computer is ready for the exam.
Download SEB and check that you have the correct version as follows:
- Log in to vurdering.uib.no.
- Go to the “Demo tests” tab, find the test “DEMO Classroom Exam /..”, select “Click here to get ready”.
- Read the text in the test if you wish, then scroll to the heading “I do not have Safe Exam Browser installed”, select “Download”, and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Mac: Remember to install SEB after downloading it.
Your computer must:
- Have an operating system equal to or newer than Windows 11 or macOS 12.1. Linux cannot be used for on-campus exams.
- Have two of the following browsers installed: Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, or Apple Safari (for Mac). They must be among the two latest stable versions.
- Support wireless networking.
Keyboard and mouse must be wired
Equipment such as keyboard and mouse must be wired. Since the computer is locked, you cannot use Bluetooth-connected devices.
Before the exam, you must also:
- Log in to Eduroam and learn how to do this. We use the Eduroam network in most of our exam locations. Network information will be provided in the room if necessary.
Are you using a work PC or a laptop without administrator rights?
You must have administrator rights on the computer you will use during the exam to install Safe Exam Browser. Therefore, using a work computer for the exam may be challenging.
- UiB employees can install Safe Exam Browser for Windows on a work computer via Software Center.
