🎥5G mmWave for high-bandwith applications🎥 In our latest video, we talk about the potential of mmWave connectivity in production. This innovative technology offers high bandwidth, gigabit-level data rates, and low latency, making it ideal for real-time communication in production environments. However, there are challenges and we need research to overcome them: the signal has a short range and can be easily disrupted by walls or people. During TARGET-X, the Fraunhofer IPT developed a demonstrator that showcases how a large amount of data, which would otherwise require wires, can be transmitted wirelessly via 5G mmWave. 👉Watch the video to see the demonstrator in action! To achieve this, we developed two innovative devices to enhance energy management: ✅ Meter-X: This plug-and-play, weather-proof, and outdoor-capable measurement box is designed for easy inline power measurement in construction environments. It can measure both large and small loads, making it versatile for various applications. ✅ 5G edgePMU: This device is specifically tailored for energy monitoring, measuring data 25 times per second. Equipped with GPS, it ensures precise tracking and monitoring of energy consumption. Both devices leverage the power of 5G for connectivity, streaming measurements to the 5G local edge cloud for storage, analysis, and visualization. The session highlighted how our strategic role in projects like TARGET-X didn't just hand out money; we provided "𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗰𝗵". This approach means: ✔️ 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀: Discovering top talent (start-ups, labs, universities) where investors often don't look and bringing them onto the European stage. ✔️ 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲: Giving them "smart money" - grants plus mentorship - to reach the Product stage from Prototype in months. ✔️ 𝗔𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗳𝘆: Seeing their growth continue well beyond the grant, attracting major follow-on investment, partners, and customers. We've seen nearly 1,500 start-ups and SMEs awarded and accelerated over the last 10 years, showing this pipeline works. And as the TARGET-X chapter comes to a close, the success stories and the proven FSTP model live on. 🤖 Edge-Controlled Automation with Mobile Manipulation 🤖 Today, flexibility is crucial for modern manufacturing, as robots must continuously adapt to new tasks. However, robots often have limited CPU capacity, leading to slower and less efficient operations. In Target X, we use edge-controlled mobile manipulators to overcome these challenges. Robots stream data to edge servers, where complex tasks are executed, resulting in improved efficiency and precision. 📍5G NR Indoor Positioning📍 In our third video of the campaign, we explore the use case of 5G NR in indoor positioning, particularly in the production industry. Discover our positioning trials, where objects are tracked using strategically placed indoor antennas. The applications of indoor positioning are vast, including machine navigation and the documentation of production steps.
