Bluffant. Parfois inattendu.

Arthur Gassner reacted on this🎉 Happy to start 2026 having defended my PhD just before Christmas! Big thanks to my supervisors Andreas Burg and Alexios Balatsoukas-Stimming, the jury, and everyone who supported me over the past years. Looking forward to continuing my work on wireless sensing for vital signs and human activity recognition and sharing more on this soon.Arthur Gassner reacted on this🎉 Congratulations to Andreas Toftegaard Kristensen on the successful defense of his PhD thesis “𝑀𝑜𝑛𝑜𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑐 𝑊𝑖-𝐹𝑖 𝑆𝑒𝑛𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑔: 𝑆𝑒𝑙𝑓-𝐼𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑓𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝐶𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐶ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑛𝑒𝑙 𝑆𝑝𝑙𝑖𝑐𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑅𝑜𝑏𝑢𝑠𝑡 𝑉𝑖𝑡𝑎𝑙-𝑆𝑖𝑔𝑛 𝑀𝑜𝑛𝑖𝑡𝑜𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔” under the supervision of Prof. Andreas Burg and Prof. Alexios Balatsoukas-Stimming. 🔎 This thesis develops novel self-interference cancellation and channel splicing techniques for monostatic Wi-Fi sensing. In full-duplex operation, radios transmit and receive simultaneously, and strong self-interference can overpower weak reflections from physiological movements like breathing. The thesis introduces analog cancellation and advanced signal processing methods to suppress this interference while preserving target signals. Combined with channel splicing to enhance range resolution, these contributions enable robust contactless monitoring of human activity and vital signs in complex indoor environments.

𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨'𝘴 𝘸𝘢𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵? Python 3.14 ships with built-in tools to inspect running async tasks. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀: - python -m asyncio ps PID - python -m asyncio pstree PID The ps command shows a flat table of all tasks: names, coroutine stacks, and what they're awaiting. The pstree command renders a visual async call tree. You see the hierarchy of tasks and how coroutines chain together. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀: Async debugging used to mean adding print statements everywhere or using third-party tools. Now you can inspect a running process and see exactly where it's stuck. Perfect for long-running async services or finding deadlocks in task groups. 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘁: 👉🏽 Production debugging (service stuck, but why?) 👉🏽 Development (understanding complex task flows) 👉🏽 Performance analysis (finding bottlenecks in async code) If a task group isn't finishing, pstree shows you which tasks are blocking and their relationships instantly. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵: You need access to the process. This works for local development and servers you control. Not for serverless or containerized apps without process access. But for traditional deployments? This is gold. Asyncio just got a lot easier to debug. If you're building async Python apps, this tool will save you hours of head-scratching. What's your biggest asyncio debugging pain point? #python #asyncio #ai #agi

Can AI overthink? Turns out, yes - and it's a problem. In my latest blog post, I break down a fascinating research study by Anthropic that reveals how larger AI models often perform worse at reasoning tasks than their smaller counterparts - all because they “think” too much. We’re talking about inverse scaling, surprising model behavior, and what it means for the future of AI development. Read the blog: https://lnkd.in/gyfvPiah Read the Paper: https://lnkd.in/gESKwhA6 💡 I regularly write about AI, tech, and latest research papers at amsharma.in. I would love to hear your thoughts if this piece sparks any ideas or questions! #AI #LLMs #MachineLearning #Reasoning #ArtificialIntelligence #InverseScaling #DeepLearning #TechBlog #AITools #PromptEngineering

AI built for society, not for profit. 💡 ETH Zurich and EPFL are about to make a bold move. They are launching a language model without chasing profit. Built for the public, researchers, and education. It’s designed with transparency, data privacy, and long-term public interest in mind. We’re used to seeing Big Tech race ahead with closed systems. Now we have something in Europe which is more open. Some interesting facts: It’s hosted on Swiss infrastructure for data sovereignty. 🇨🇭 It’s trained on publicly available, licensed data, not user content. ETH wants to invite universities, authorities, and civil society to co-develop and explore it together. They want to understand these models instead of just using them. I love that. More of this mindset, please. What do you think? Do we have a chance to lead in ethical, public-focused AI? -J Content: Jonas and AI

Great news from Berlin! A team from Technische Universität Berlin, led by Tim Rese, has published a paper on arXiv comparing modern spatiotemporal database platforms. Mireo SpaceTime performed very well in their evaluation. Some highlights: - "SpaceTime actually has lower query latencies than the in-memory solution." - "SpaceTime performs well in most of our queries when comparing p99 latencies across SUTs." - "SpaceTime shows strong performance across most queries." The best part is that the current paper evaluates performance in a single-node setup. The authors plan to publish a follow-up study focusing on multi-node deployments with significantly larger databases, where we expect the results to be even stronger! #mireo #spacetime #tuberlin #spatiotemporal #database
