Big in Japan – and increasingly big for CCS. Japan is moving decisively towards large-scale carbon capture and storage, with major projects under development and ambitious targets for CO₂ storage from 2030 and beyond. TCM recently visited Japan together with Gassnova, with support from the Norwegian Embassy and Innovation Norway, to meet leading technology developers, industrial companies and other key CCS stakeholders. The discussions highlighted significant opportunities to bring TCM’s 14 years of experience in large-scale CO₂ capture testing, technology qualification and Advisory Services to Japanese projects as they move towards implementation. TCM is the world’s largest and most flexible test facility for carbon capture technologies.
About us
TCM is the world's largest and most flexible test center for the verification of technologies for CO2 capture and a leading competence center in this field. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), carbon capture can contribute about 20 percent of the reduction in CO2 emissions that is necessary to prevent uncontrolled global warming. Testing and verification of technologies for CO2 capture is therefore a very important part of the solution to the climate crisis. TCM is located at Mongstad in Nordhordland, and the center is part of one of the most complex industrial facilities in Norway. TCM promotes carbon capture as a tool for a cleaner and greener future by bridging technology developers, science and industrial application of CO2 capture technologies. Our main task is to test, verify and demonstrate different technologies related to cost-effective and full-scale industrial CO2 capture. We also offer consultancy services for carbon capture projects. The aim is to facilitate the spread of carbon capture technology in various branches and industries. In this way, TCM is an important part of Norway's contribution in the fight against climate change. TCM participates in a broad international collaboration with relevant players on the development and commercialization of new technology, which is important for carbon capture and storage to have an effect against climate change. TCM has a high focus on HSE, and on maintaining a good, developing, and inclusive working environment. Owners: The Norwegian state through Gassnova SF (43,6%), Equinor (28,2%) and TotalEnergies (28,2%)

Great to welcome POSCO International Corp and its Partners to Technology Centre Mongstad (TCM)! The visit highlighted an important focus area for the hard-to-abate industries: moving promising carbon capture technologies from development toward the scale, performance, and operational confidence required for industrial deployment. As POSCO International is pioneering diverse low-carbon business initiatives and CCS project development to support POSCO Group’s Net-Zero, de-risking capture technologies at industrially relevant scale is essential. TCM provides technology developers and industrial partners with a unique platform to test, validate, optimize, and de-risk carbon capture solutions under realistic operating conditions—generating the data and operational experience needed to support investment decisions and accelerate commercialization. We look forward to continuing the dialogue with POSCO International and exploring opportunities to accelerate the deployment of carbon capture technologies across the steel industry and other boarder sectors.

Great to be back at Technology Centre Mongstad (TCM) for another successful delivery of our CCS Essentials course, with a great group of participants representing a range of regions, projects and roles within CCUS. There is another delivery planned for 24th and 25th September. Don't miss out, spaces are limited! https://lnkd.in/d4e9UrVp
Another successful CCS Essentials training has wrapped up! It was a pleasure to jointly deliver this course with DNV, bringing together participants from across the carbon capture and storage value chain for two days of practical learning, technical discussions, on-site facility tour and knowledge sharing. The training covered the fundamentals of CCS, from capture technologies and process integration through to transport, storage, project development, and key technical and commercial considerations. One of the highlights was the engagement from participants, whose questions and industry experience made for valuable discussions throughout the course. As the CCS industry continues to move from concept to deployment, building technical competence across the value chain is becoming increasingly important. Courses like CCS Essentials help provide a common understanding of the technologies, challenges, and opportunities that will shape the industry's future. A big thank you to everyone who attended, and to our colleagues at DNV for another excellent collaboration. Missed this session? Our next CCS Essentials training will take place in September, and we'd be delighted to welcome you. Please see the link for additional details and registration! https://lnkd.in/d5Bsav5Q
