EAT is pleased to join the Food for White Winters pilot ahead of the 2026 World Cup in Åre, showing how food can help skiers perform at their best while caring for the planet. By turning the evidence behind the EAT–Lancet Commission into meals that fuel athletes and delight fans, this project shows that food can do more than support performance. It can shape culture, shift systems, and help protect the winters we love. What does a just food system look like? 🤝 Chapter 3 of the 2025 EAT–Lancet Commission shows why justice is central to food systems, and how to build it. Today, too many are left behind, fewer than 1% live in the “safe and just space”, and inequity is widespread across the workforce. Change is possible. Uphold the right to food, a healthy environment and decent work—and ensure fair pay, real voice in decisions and protection for those most at risk. Swipe for the science behind a fairer food system. “If we start to look more carefully, and systemically, at what’s on our plates, we could address some of humanity’s greatest challenges.” — Maria Clara Moraes, Co-Founder, Verdes Marias In this new Food Tank op-ed, Maria Clara explores how joyful, culturally rooted, plant-rich meals can support health and ease pressure on climate and nature, echoing pathways highlighted in the 2025 EAT–Lancet Commission. Dialogue is essential. That belief was at the heart of our #LidlInDialogue event, which we hosted earlier this month - bringing together industry leaders, partners and changemakers to explore how we can build a healthier, more sustainable food system for Great Britain. The message from every corner of the room was clear: our food system is at a tipping point. Real progress will only happen if we listen, collaborate and act together. At Lidl GB, serving over 60% of GB households gives us both the responsibility and opportunity to drive change from farm to fork. Our approach is grounded in action: 🌱Science-led: We’re the first British retailer to align with the EAT-Lancet Planetary Health Diet 🥕Supporting plant-based: Over the last five years we’ve delivered a near 700% increase in sales of our plant-based protein products 🛒Empowering customers: Our new “Live Well” logo helps shoppers identify products that meet PHD standards 🚀Investing in the future: We’re committed to a £30 billion sourcing investment in British food and farming by 2030 Thank you to Gunhild Anker Stordalen, MD/PhD for your brilliant keynote, and to the superb panellists who joined us for this critical conversation to the future of the UK food industry Amali Bunter Shaun Spiers Jason Belmont Paul Dover Anna Taylor Mike Barry #LidlGB #PlanetaryHealthDiet
Our food system is at a tipping point – the choices we make about food today will shape the future of our health and our planet. At our latest Lidl in Dialogue event our CCO Richard Bourns opened the session, setting the stage for a conversation about how retailers, policymakers, and partners can work together to deliver healthier, more sustainable diets. Gunhild Anker Stordalen, MD/PhD delivered an inspiring keynote, followed by a panel with Anna Taylor, Jason Belmont, Paul Dover, Shaun Spiers, and Amali Bunter, exploring collaboration, cross-sector partnerships, and how consumer engagement can turn principles into progress. The challenge is clear, but the opportunity is bigger – together, we can create a food system that delivers better living every day. Checkout the highlights of the event 👇🎥 #LidlGB #LidlInDialogue #PlanetaryHealthDiet

Live updates from the ground: RAIZ is officially launched at COP30 in Belém! Today, at the High-Level Ministerial Event, nine countries have announced their support for RAIZ, an innovative new Brazil-led accelerator that will unite governments and investors behind a shared goal: restoring the world’s farmland to strengthen food security, tackle climate breakdown, and protect biodiversity. The Resilient Agriculture Investment for net-Zero land degradation (RAIZ) accelerator will assist participating countries to unlock and strategically allocate public and private investment for the restoration of degraded agricultural land at scale. The accelerator builds on the lessons of Green Way and Eco Invest in Brazil – an innovative mechanism that mobilised close to USD 6 billion in public debt and commercial loans to restore up to 3 million hectares of pastureland. The launch of RAIZ supports key global policy goals, including the COP30 Presidency’s action agenda (Axis 3) on transforming agriculture and food systems, with a focus on land restoration (Goal 8). Farmland restoration is also central to the Rio Conventions (UNCBD, UNCCD, UNFCCC) and the UN 2030 Agenda, notably SDG 15.3 which aims to achieve Land Degradation Neutrality by 2030. By promoting more sustainable and regenerative agriculture, RAIZ advances efforts to restore degraded land, boost productivity, improve soil carbon capture potential, and reduce pressure on forests. Ultra-processed foods are actively hijacking our health - and our planet. A powerful new Lancet Series, led by Carlos Augusto Monteiro – who also serves as a commissioner on the 2025 #EATLancet Commission – confirms that diets high in UPFs are linked to harm across almost every major organ system in the human body. But here’s the critical point: this is not about individual willpower. For many children and low-income families, UPFs are the default – not a “lifestyle choice” – but the easiest, cheapest and often only option. It is the structure of our food environments, not personal decisions, that drives this pattern. Our food systems are engineering this reality, pushing populations far outside the “safe and just space” for food. The data is staggering. As the EAT–Lancet Commissions highlight, aligning consumption patterns with the Planetary Health Diet could save at least 15 million lives every year - while helping keep us within planetary boundaries and reducing the deep inequities built into today’s food systems. Yet this remains one of the most under-recognised opportunities in the global health community. The EAT–Lancet Commissions also show that change is both possible and practical. It means aligning subsidies with public health and planetary goals, updating and enforcing regulation on harmful products and marketing, reshaping food environments, reducing the environmental footprint of production, and supporting farmers and food producers who can deliver nutritious, affordable choices to all. My hope is that these new Lancet publications act as an evidence-based wake-up call. Achieving a healthy, sustainable and just future depends on whether we use this knowledge to redesign food systems that work for people, planet and equity. It is time for governments, businesses, investors, health professionals and civil society to sit at the same table and ensure that the easy choice becomes the healthy, fair and sustainable one. This is the work of systems leadership – and it will define the next decade. Link to the Lancet Series on UPFs in the comments below.
