About

Leilac is the strategic technology partner enabling future-proof cement and lime.

At the heart of Leilac is a breakthrough, indirectly heated calcination technology built to reduce costs and emissions, improve productivity, and strengthen the resilience and competitiveness of cement and lime production.

Leilac’s modular technology is designed to be retrofitted to existing assets with minimal downtime. Through energy flexibility and simple capture of unavoidable process carbon dioxide emissions, Leilac aims to enable cement and lime producers to meet economic, operational and environmental goals – today and tomorrow.

Operating across Europe, the Americas and Asia Pacific, Leilac is enabling a new era of modernised, low-carbon cement and lime production.

One technology. Multiple benefits. Future-proof cement and lime.

Technology

Lime decarbonisation plant

The Leilac technology uses indirect heating to separate the heat source from the calcination reaction.

This creates energy flexibility. Plants may choose to operate fully on the lowest cost fuel source locally available, including waste-derived alternative fuels. Hybrid heating options are being designed to unlock access to increasing periods of low or negatively priced electricity to further reduce production costs and emissions.

Indirect heating also ensures that unavoidable process emissions are not contaminated by flue gases or air. This creates a high purity stream of process carbon dioxide that can be simply captured without the high energy cost of conventional carbon capture approaches.

The combination of dynamic fuel switching to minimise costs and avoid fuel emissions, coupled with low-cost capture of process emissions, aims to provide cost-effective and flexible pathways to low-carbon cement and lime.

Our impact

Leilac aims to enable a three-tiered approach that delivers immediate economic benefits for producers and a resilient, competitive and low-carbon cement and lime industry:

Avoiding fossil fuel emissions through fuel switching to lower carbon and lower cost energy sources

Capturing unavoidable process emissions at high purity with minimal energy cost and complexity

Removing residual and legacy emissions through Direct Air Capture

This integrated pathway aims to support a flexible and low-cost transition that aligns with both economic and environmental goals.
