The Longship CCS Project<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Longship is Europe’s first complete value chain for the capture, transport, and storage of industrial CO2<\/sub> emissions. The largest climate initiative in Norwegian industrial history.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

The stakeholders in Longship<\/h2>\n\n\n

Longship involves government support for developing the Northern Lights transport and storage infrastructure. Firstly, Heidelberg Materials<\/a>‘ CO2<\/sub> capture project at the cement factory in Brevik. Secondly, Hafslund Celsios’ CO2<\/sub> capture project at the WtE facility in Oslo. Hafslund Celsios’<\/a> construction work was put on hold in 2023. Following an extensive cost-reduction phase and renegotiation of the state support agreement, the project has now resumed.<\/p>\n

According to the plan, CO2<\/sub> will be transported by ships from the capture sites to the Northern Lights onshore facility in \u00d8ygarden. here, the CO2<\/sub> will be stored in tanks before being sent through a pipeline to the injection well, where it will be pumped into the subsea reservoir. Heidelberg Materials and Celsio are expected to deliver approximately 400,000 and 350 000 tons of CO2<\/sub> each annually, respectively. Combined, this represents a significant share of Norway\u2019s total emissions – around 1.6 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n
