Created by storied game maker Ubisoft, Rocksmith+ offers very interactive lessons in piano and guitar that feel more like playing a game than taking a lesson.

What we love: Nailing each colourful note as it comes toward us and learning the basics of piano, bass and guitar in the process. You can use your own instrument – the app uses your device’s microphone to listen along. And with a library of thousands of official studio recordings, Rocksmith+ songs are just as the artist played them.

Quick tip: Worried you won’t be able to keep up? Fear not. Rocksmith+ automatically adjusts the song’s difficulty as you play. If it senses you need more time to master a technique, the app will meet you where you are.

Meet the creator: Ubisoft created the learning approach for Rocksmith+ from the ground up. “We teach in a way that works for us rather than how it was always done,” says Ubisoft executive producer Jason Schroeder.
