This post-apocalyptic strategy game sure does keep you busy. With modern technology lost to the big freeze, the human race must get back to basics and rediscover its hunter-gatherer origins.

You’re the camp leader, charged with making the best use of the people and tools around you to transform a tiny settlement into a sprawling metropolis – and ultimately become the dominant force on the permafrost.

Ensuring your townsfolk stay safe and warm is critical, but keeping the furnace firing isn’t quite as simple as turning up the thermostat. You’ll need plentiful stocks of wood, coal and iron to make sure the heating stays on, while also building shelters, healthcare facilities and mines to prepare for the oncoming storm.

Thanks to the Suggestion Box in the middle of town, nobody will be shy in telling you how they feel about your leadership! But true success in Whiteout Survival requires setting your sights beyond the boundaries of your fiefdom.

Exploration parties of brave heroes will be at the forefront of your expansion plans, battling rival survivors and ravenous beasts for resources. You’ll also need to decide whether to welcome other survivors into your camp – they may be good for the community, but they’ll also use precious resources.

You’re not the only faction looking to control this sub-zero future, however. This is a multiplayer game where many other leaders are vying for supremacy of the ice. Do you opt to form alliances or try to conquer everything before you? That’s up to you…

Whiteout Survival can feel a little daunting when you first set foot in its vast ice world, so it’s a good idea to pause for a moment as you get a feel for the various onscreen options.

Your Backpack, for example, contains spare resources and Speedups to accelerate your construction projects – be careful to save some of them for an even snowier day – while the map will reveal the extent of the frozen dystopia outside your city walls.

Perhaps most importantly of all, the city thermometer will tell you if your ongoing battle against the elements is on the right track.
